A new production of Revealed is back for a two-week run at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry from October 18 to November 2nd.
The play explores black masculinity, identity and relationships from the perspectives of three generations of black men who are locked inside their family restaurant during protests invoked by an incident in police custody.
The original production was a collaboration between Red Earth Collective and Birmingham based theatre company Rites of Passage Productions and played to sold out audiences at the Midland’s Arts Centre in 2019 before a three-week run at The Tobacco Factory in Bristol in 2022.
Red Earth Collective will also lead a series of conversations exploring black men’s mental health and manage a community engagement programme across the West Midlands.
Sandra Griffiths from Red Earth Collective who co-produced the original performances is really looking forward to the new production, she said: “It’s fantastic that the Belgrade are committed to Revealed and are working with us to stimulate conversations about mental health. Revealed addresses some very difficult issues with compassion, sensitivity and humour and with a real understanding of the lives of black man. I think its as relevant today as when we first starting developing the idea with Dan and Husna at Rites of Passage in 2017 and I am really happy that it is going to reach new audiences.”
