The Red Earth Collective is delighted to bring you Black Men on the Couch, an event that features high profile men who are interviewed by an experienced talking therapist on a couch in front of a live audience.
Hosted as part of the upcoming production of the play Revealed, at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.
Black Men on the Couch will be hosted by talking therapist Rotimi Akinsete and will feature academic and activist, Kehinde Andrews and writer and star of Revealed, Daniel J Carver.
Some of the men previously featured on the couch include Benjamin Zephaniah, Ashley Walters, David Lammy and Stan Collymore.
Black Men on The Coach was developed by Rotimi Akinsete a Black male counsellor, to help combat mental health stigma and to encourage all, but particularly men who identify as Black, to openly discuss their mental and emotional health, and think about counselling and therapy as a form of support.
There are many barriers to men of African heritage talking about their problems and worries; this initiative highlights this issue while offering the ‘couch’ to high profile men. This is great for younger Black men – or indeed ALL men – who see these role models go public with their emotions.
The event be hosted by talking therapist Rotimi Akinsete and will feature two guests:
Dr Kehinde Andrews Academic, activist, TV personality and author whose books include Back to Black: Retelling Black Radicalism for the 21st Century (2018). Read more about Kehinde.
Daniel J Carver Actor and Writer from Birmingham. His play Revealed premiered at Tobacco Factory Theatres in 2022, and will be held this autumn at the Belgrade Theatre from Friday 18 October to Saturday 2 November.
Black Men on the Couch will take place on Thursday 10 October 2024, at 7.30pm at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry. Book your tickets here.
