Menologues

Menologues uses theatre to explore the wellbeing and share the stories of Black men.

We have worked closely with many black male actors and writers to explore the stigma that they face when they attempt to speak about their emotions. They have told us that in many African and Caribbean communities, expressing feelings of sadness and pain is often seen as a weakness. Negative portrayals in the media of black men and their mental health, often focus on serious mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar, and not on more common problems like depression. These issues make it extremely difficult for many black men to speak about their feelings and seek help and support.

Through these conversations, we have heard some amazingly powerful, moving, sad and funny stories which have inspired our work and brought Menologues to life through theatre.
