Femologues

We work with female artists and women from racialised and marginalised communities to create new work that explores mental health and wellbeing from a woman’s perspective.

Our first production “Close to the Edge” was a play about the invisibility and lack of opportunities for older black women. We made it in collaboration with Planet Arts Theatre and after two sold out shows in Birmingham in 2019 we followed it up with a series of public workshops exploring Black Femininity and Mental Health.

In 2020 we produced a short film “Femologues” in partnership with director Dana Anderson which featured new spoken words pieces by Birmingham based Performance Poets Su Brown and Dawn Loretta about Covid, the death of George Floyd and the growth of the Black Lives Matter movement

In November 2021 as part of Birmingham’s Bedlam Festival we will present extracts from a new play from actor and writer Jade Laurie-Hart, AKA A Diary from No One, that use music and poetry to explore her lived-experience of mental illness.
